Boo! Yes, it’s October and that means Halloween. But October isn’t just ghosts, witches and trick or treat. It’s one of the most beautiful months where nature is at its best.

There’s a poem that I’d love to share with you. It’s called “October’s Party.” I’ve never met children who don’t light up from this poem immediately.
Some will want to start writing a poem of their own. Others will want to draw pictures illustrating the poem. The poem even lends itself to dancing with Miss Weather, Professor Wind and leaves of every color.
Enjoy reading “October’s Party” to your kids or you can listen to me reading it on the audio at the top of the page.
October’s Party
by George Cooper
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came—
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses Maple
In scarlet looked their best;
All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.
Then, in the rustic hollow,
At hide-and-seek they played,
The party closed at sundown,
And everybody stayed.
Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along the ground;
And then the party ended
In jolly “hands around.”
Let me know how your kids reacted to this poem so I can share it in my November newsletter. By the way, I’ll also be including Thanksgiving Recipes from all of you in my November newsletter. And your child’s name will be mentioned, with your permission, of course.
